Boulder EMDR Insight: Creating a Safe Harbor for Healing
Before we touch the pain,
before we speak the story,
we begin with something even more important—
Safety.
Because your body needs to know:
You are not alone here.
You are not back there.
You are safe now.
That’s the foundation of how I work with EMDR therapy—
by creating a safe harbor for your healing.
We Begin With Safety—Not the Story
The first phase of EMDR therapy is called resourcing.
But really, it’s about building your inner sanctuary.
A place inside you that knows how to ground, settle, and return.
We’ll gently explore practices that help you feel anchored:
Soothing breathwork
Visualization that brings calm
Memories that offer support, not sorrow
Body cues that signal: It’s okay to stay present
You don’t have to be ready to dive into the past.
You just have to be willing to feel a little safer right here.
The Relationship Is the Medicine
So many wounds happened in relationship—
in moments when you needed care and didn’t receive it.
Which is why healing happens best in relationship too.
In our work together, you’ll never be asked to push past what feels tolerable.
There’s no pressure to “go there” before you’re ready.
My role is to walk alongside you—
not as someone who fixes or explains,
but as someone who holds space with steady presence and deep respect.
We’ll build trust over time.
And you’ll begin to feel it in your body:
I don’t have to do this alone anymore.
Staying in the Present While Touching the Past
EMDR therapy doesn’t make you relive trauma.
It helps your brain reprocess it—while keeping you connected to now.
We use something called bilateral stimulation—gentle eye movements, sounds, or taps.
These help your brain know:
This memory is old.
This feeling is familiar—but it’s not happening now.
And if anything ever feels too much,
we pause.
We breathe.
We come back to safety—together.
Letting the Brain Release What It No Longer Needs to Hold
Trauma often stays stuck because your brain believes the danger is still happening.
Through EMDR, we help it learn:
The danger is over.
You made it through.
You can let go now.
And as this shift unfolds,
something beautiful happens.
The memory softens.
The grip loosens.
The story becomes part of your past—not your present.
You may begin to feel more peace.
More clarity.
More capacity to be in your life, not just survive it.
